I missed this story on Title IX ruling for Huntsville High, but this is going to kill HS sports…

The settlement provides for equal funding and support for boys’ and girls’ athletics, regardless if the source is school funds, contributions from boosters, or other third party donations.    Equal promotion of athletic events and achievements is also addressed, as is coach recruitment/pay, travel and per diem allowances,  and athlete training.

REGARDLESS OF CONTRIBUTIONS?

A concerned parent writes this…

“Didn’t know whether or not you saw the lawsuit settlement the HCS Board approved last Thursday. From what I can make from it the Board approved to pay tax $$ to Huntsville High’s Softball team for facilities upgrades etc (including $42+K to Schiller Law firm the Plaintiff’s Title IX specialty law firm out of TN) to make them equal to HHS baseball, inspite of the fact that most of the additional benefits the baseball players have are the result of fund raising and volunteer time by the private not for profit baseball booster club.

The settlement doesn’t outline all the details of the case, and it may be that there were past inequities in distribution of resources by HCS on softball and baseball. But it appears going forward that a national Title IX law firm has convinced the Board to agree to ensure that girls and boys sports receive equal facilities, resources, meals, travel, equipment etc regardless of whether those items are financed by the school or by “booster clubs, businesses, individual donors, parents and others.” It says “The Board agrees to monitor contributions and the effect contributions have in Huntsville High sports” to ensure that “girl’s and boys sports SHALL BE supported equitably and funded on a gender neutral basis” and “shall not permit any infusion of non-school monetary or non-monetary contributions to result in Huntsville High sports programs which are inequitable.”

I have requested that the Board specify how they intend to accomplish this considering booster clubs are independent, parent volunteer run and use personal and private fundraising. Will they restrict volunteer time and privately raised funds of successful and more active booster clubs? Will they confiscate and redistribute those funds? Or will they continue to hand out essentially tax subsidies to make up for less successful and less active booster clubs? The settlement seems to just deal with Huntsville High but it seems to me the Board has opened up a huge can of worms and handed it to Schiller Law Firm to pull out increasingly bigger and more nasty worms at their leisure (while accumulating $40K checks of tax money each time they reach in). “

Glamorizing suicide is probably a bad idea…

Maybe stop this stuff?
