There is a crisis of credibility with BOTH Donald Trump and the media…

To summarize:

It is becoming apparent that no on e in the media knows what is going on and that the White House is generally full of crap as well.

BUT the Acting FBI Director blew up a lot of this up…

Media claims Comey was fired for asking for more resources: NOPE

Multiple media sources (the NY Times, CNN, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal) have run the same anonymously-sourced claim that Comey was fired shortly after asking for more resources for the Russia counterintelligence investigation. McCabe threw a big bucket of cold water on that:

Media claims there is a investigation into Trump colluding with Russia: NOPE

As I have discussed previously here and here, everything we know to date indicates that the FBI investigation is a counterintelligence investigation aimed at Russia, not a criminal investigation aimed at Trump (although the FBI may spin off collateral criminal probes, and seems to be headed that way with Michael Flynn). McCabe confirmed Comey’s prior testimony to that effect:

They are also claiming it is “heating up” for some reason.

Trump’s firing of Comey sent a wave of criticism the White House’s way, with Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill questioning the timing of the firing, which came as the FBI’s investigation into potential coordination between Trump campaign associates and Russia has heated up.

Media claims that Trump was interfering in the investigation: NOPE

McCabe was having none of efforts to characterize the Trump White House as interfering with the Russia investigation, and assured the committee that the Bureau would be undeterred and that he would not be conferring further with the White House about the investigation:

You can ask if there is an investigation

Retired section chief James Pledger agreed.

“I would say it’s situational,” Pledger said. He’s been retired since 1994, but he speculated that it’s probably the case that the FBI is now expected to give an honest answer to the question. “But there are obviously sometimes cases when it’s sensitive and the agent would have to defer.”

Presented with the Trump-Comey scenario, Pledger said that Comey would probably be expected to answer honestly. That said, the honest answer was almost certainly that Trump himself was not under investigation; rather, that his campaign was. “I would suspect that, if in fact President Trump asked Mr. Comey about that, the proper answer would be no: No, personally you’re not,” he said.

WH claims it was about FBI agents losing confidence in Comey: NOPE

The Trump White House has insisted that Comey had lost the confidence of the FBI, and that many agents had contacted the White House to express their relief at his dismissal. Undoubtedly, in a large organization like the FBI, with a high-profile director at the center of multiple political controversies, Comey should be expected to have some internal critics and enemies. But McCabe insisted that the Bureau was largely behind Comey:

WH claims it was because of the Deputy AG recommended it: NOPE

Trump stupidly says he was going to do it anyway….

President Donald Trump said Thursday that he had already decided to fire ousted FBI Director James Comey before Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein wrote up a formal recommendation to do so.

“I was going to fire Comey,” Trump told NBC News’ Lester Holt in an interview. “Regardless of the recommendation I was going to fire Comey.”

The White House initially said Rosenstein’s memorandum to Attorney General Jeff Sessions prompted Trump to fire Comey, but Trump contradicted that account, saying he had already planned to do so and requested a memo to back up his decision.

Fun fact:
