Members of the Madison County Legislative Delegation to Hold Town Hall on Gas Tax
Senators Sanford & Holtzclaw say town hall will be held at 6:00 p.m. in Huntsville
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – On Monday, April 17th, at 6:00 p.m., members of the Madison County legislative delegation will hold a town hall on the proposed gas tax the House of Representatives is considering.
The meeting will take place at:
Huntsville City Council Chambers- Municipal Building
308 Fountain Circle
Huntsville, AL 35801
“Before any sort of new tax increase is considered, we need to hear from our constituents,” Senator Bill Holtzclaw (R-Madison) said. “We are going way too fast on this proposal. Let’s slow down. A nine cent tax increase on gasoline, coupled with a $2.4 billion bond issue, isn’t something that should be passed in haste, before we have time to fully study the proposal.”
On Tuesday, a committee in the House of Representatives approved by voice vote a plan to gradually raise the state gasoline and diesel tax by up to nine cents.
“This is an opportunity for us to have a discussion with the community and let them know what’s going in Montgomery,” Senator Paul Sanford (R-Huntsville). “What’s the rush? We have thirteen legislative days left in the session. We need to take our time – this is a huge $2.4 billion bond issue we’re considering.”
