We have talked more about a fat beauty queen than any other issue coming out of the deabte…
A former Miss Universe is speaking out about what she characterizes as Donald Trump‘s cruel nicknames and behavior, accusing him of calling her “Miss Piggy” after she gained weight and “Miss Housekeeping” because of her Latina accent.
“For sure he is not a good person,” Venezuelan-born Alicia Machadotold Inside Edition.
No kidding? Trump is a bad guy? What?
This is completely ridiculous…
In an old article archived on CNN’s website, correspondent Jeanne Moos (who still works at CNN today) wrote about Alicia Machado‘s weight gain with the actual headline “Expanding Miss Universe works to shed pounds.”
And while you could charitably call that a clickbait-y headline years before anyone coined the phrase “clickbait,” the content of the actual article isn’t that much better either:
When Alicia Machado of Venezuela was named Miss Universe nine months ago, no one could accuse her of being the size of the universe. But as her universe expanded, so did she, putting on nearly 60 pounds.
Indeed, the reigning Miss Universe learned the hard way that an extra 15 or 20 pounds can gain you a ton of publicity. But now she’s determined to shed at least 15 pounds, though the loss of her Miss Universe crown is no longer an issue.
Later on in the article, there’s this gem: “Since winning the crown, the former Miss Venezuela went from 118 pounds to — well — a number that kept growing like the size of the fish that got away.”
Yes, the media is now pretending Trump’s comments are super-offensive when they did they exact same thing to this woman.
Again, she competed in a beauty contest and was obligated to stay beautiful. This is not complex.
Also, Trump is an idiot.
Breathing fresh life into Clinton’s attacks from the debate — on his treatment of women, how he’s run his business, his refusal to release his tax returns, and role in promoting the “birther” conspiracy thatPresident Obama wasn’t eligible for the White House — undermines that goal.
Yet that’s exactly what Trump did on Monday morning during an interview on Fox News, when he voluntarily defended against Clinton’s attack that he once referred to an Hispanic Miss Universe candidate as overweight and “Miss Housekeeping.”
The interview ensured that the clip from the debate, among Trump’s worst moments, would get replayed all day on cable news, along side the celebrity billionaire trying to defend the indefensible.
“He should have left this alone,” said Brett O’Donnell, a Republican strategist who specializes in debate prep. “Trump needs to figure out what is defense and what is offense and stick to offense and quit taking the bait and being so defensive when attacked.”
Cohen believes the Court of the Judiciary has no other choice than to remove Moore, who has been outspoken against the legalization of gay marriage off the bench and in orders issued from the bench. Same-sex marriage is the law of the land, he said.
Whether the Jan. 6 document from Moore is considered an order or a suggestion it makes very little difference, Cohen said. “He has recommended at the very least that they (probate judges) violate a court order,” he said.
“It’s time the Court of the Judiciary take the Ayatollah of Alabama off the bench,” Cohen said.
Moore’s attorney, Mat Staver with Liberty Counsel, said that Moore was not advising probate judges to defy the U.S. Supreme Court. Instead, Moore was following the law by informing the judges on the status of the petition, and related orders, filed by the Alabama Policy Institute in early 2015 before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on same-sex marriage, he said.
Make it end.
