“If I had my druthers there would be one school system in Jefferson County,” Clemon said.
The DOJ probably agrees….
The U.S. Department of Justice, along with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Jefferson County School system, on Friday laid out in writing their opposition to Gardendale splitting from the county and forming its own school system.
“When all the chaff is stripped away, ‘local control’ is the goal and the outcome sought (by Gardendale),” according to the 37-page Jefferson County brief. “In other words, it is and always has been about what Gardendale wants and what they think they deserve, to the exclusion of those who are beyond the city limit sign.”
If Trump loses, advocates for Fed control of schools want to meddle in even more districts…
But there’s also another possible scenario to consider in the modern era of desegregation, Clemon said.
If Trump is defeated and new U.S. Supreme Court justices are named, maybe the 1974 decision in Milliken v. Bradley could be reconsidered, Clemon said.
In the Bradley case involving Detroit’s school system a federal judge had ordered bussing to neighboring school systems in order to desegregate Detroit’s system. However, in a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that ordering students to be bussed to other school systems that may, or may not, have had any violations involving segregation wasn’t allowed.
If that decision were reversed, then it might reopen the possibility of looking at desegregation solutions on a region-wide basis, Clemon said.
They also want the Clinton Supreme Court to abolish your school districts, whether they have racial issues or not…
This is real.
