Can you go to jail for not buying insurance?
Parker Griffith says yes. (from a report by admitted socialist Linda Haynes of 20 different liberal front groups)
He said the mandate to buy insurance included in the House bill makes not buying insurance a felony crime.
Barack Obama says “yes“.
“What I think is appropriate is that in the same way that everybody has to get auto insurance and if you don’t, you’re subject to some penalty, that in this situation, if you have the ability to buy insurance, it’s affordable and you choose not to do so, forcing you and me and everybody else to subsidize you, you know, there’s a thousand dollar hidden tax that families all across America are — are burdened by because of the fact that people don’t have health insurance, you know, there’s nothing wrong with a penalty.”
ABC’s Jake Tapper adds…
Under the House bill those who can afford to buy insurance and don’t’ pay a fine. If the refuse to pay that fine there’s a threat – as with a lot of tax fines – of jail time. The Senate removed that provision in the Senate Finance Committee.
Local Democrats say this is”GOP HEALTH CARE LIE“…
Then they link to Obama saying this…
“I think the general broad principle is simply that people who are paying for their health insurance aren’t subsidizing folks who simply choose not to until they get sick and then suddenly they expect free health insurance. That’s — that’s basic concept of responsibility that I think most Americans abide by,” Mr. Obama said, “penalties are appropriate for people who try to free ride the system and force others to pay for their health insurance.”
So does the House bill that Parker Griffith voted against include a penalty of jail time for not buying insurance?
ONE MORE THING: From Griffith’s meeting with the local NAACP:
Bob Harrison (County Commissioner) told me later that he got up and reminded Griffith that he got into office on a narrow margin of votes and that the African American community helped put him over the top. However, Griffith isn’t voting the way they want … and a new election is coming.
I have heard before that Harrison was considering a primary challenge against Griffith. I hope he does.
Hilariously Griffith sponsored a local Democrat event in town last night and then did not even appear. Nice to see he fears Democrats too.
Are you ready to read an infuriating tale of local school boards attempting to silence a soldier for disagreeing with them? (from flashpointblog.com)
We will be joined by the wife of this soldier at 7AM.
You are already aware of how this began over a simple uniform dispute as other parents have addressed this body before on my behalf and theirs. I went to the next PTA meeting with a camera to protect myself as a result of my treatment following that first meeting. Unfortunately, it turned out that I needed that video because once again the Williams Middle School, Principal Avis Williams, began calling the Army and slandering my name.
A few weeks ago, I had a meeting with the Superintendent and a few other parents. During that meeting, I explained that the principal was calling my employer and asked if that was common practice. She assured me it was not and that she would speak with the principal and let her know that the only person that is to contact the Army about a parent would be her. Well, either she didn’t tell the principal this important rule or the principal simply ignored her. Since this meeting, the principal has called my place of employment twice with baseless accusations.
They go as far as calling his unit and attempting to get his unit to punish him and the Dr. Ann Roy Moore has done NOTHING to stop this harassment.

To the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education, what are you going to do about this?

While Obama is out globetrotting he is still pushing back a decision on how many troops to send to Afghanistan, an e-mailer writes this…
If Obama were really debating between sending 20,000 or 40,000 troops, why wouldn’t he go ahead and send 20,000 immediately, and then debate whether to send the second 20,000?
Looks to me like he’s either an idiot, or has some other agenda.
That is a fantastic point. If they need more troops send the minimum you can’t wrap your mind around and then deliberate.
This is getting bad…
Denise Sherman urged the president to make a decision about the Afghan war.”I think it is time that a decision is made that this country comes together and supports our troops or whatever (Obama) decides. God will guide him. But it is time. It is time,” she said.
We all wanted Cindy Sheehan to shut up and not use her kid as a pawn, is this the same thing?
Election fraud in NY-23…
Conservative Doug Hoffman conceded the race in the 23rd Congressional District last week after receiving two pieces of grim news for his campaign: He was down 5,335 votes with 93 percent of the vote counted on election night, and he had barely won his stronghold in Oswego County. As it turns out, neither was true.
But Hoffman’s concession — based on snafus in Oswego County and elsewhere that left his vote undercounted — set off a chain of events that echoed all the way to Washington, D.C., and helped secure passage of a historic health care reform bill.
Where is the outrage over actual VOTER FRAUD?
I guess as long as no one sends out a press release parody there is no outrage.
The US is being sued because they aren’t giving money to ACORN…
Representatives for ACORN sued the federal government Thursday morning in an attempt to regain the millions of dollars in funding the community organizing group lost after filmmakers videotaped its workers offering advice on how to commit tax fraud and various other felonies.
The suit charges Congress with violating the Constitution when it passed legislation in September that specifically targeted ACORN to lose federal housing, education and transportation funds.
I better receive some “housing, education and transportation funds” or I will sue.
Bills of attainder have traditionally been understood to have more serious legal consequences — including the seizure of private property and even capital punishment — than Congress’ decision to withhold funds that are at its discretion to disseminate. Though members of Congress have accused ACORN of corruption, it is not clear how the exercise of its own prerogative is outside the bounds of legislative power.
Nidal Malik Hasan’s motives are still being questioned by some in the press…
