Apparently, it could the government will seize parts of your bank accounts…
Cyprus’s parliament has postponed until Monday an emergency session to vote on a levy on bank deposits after signs that lawmakers might block the surprise move agreed in Brussels to help fund a bailout and avert national bankruptcy.
In a radical departure from previous aid packages, euro zone finance ministers want Cyprus savers to forfeit up to 9.9 percent of their deposits in return for a 10 billion euro ($13 billion) bailout to the island, which has been financially crippled by its exposure to neighboring Greece.
The decision, announced on Saturday morning, stunned Cypriots and caused a run on cashpoints, most of which were depleted within hours. Electronic transfers were stopped.
I realize this is Cyprus, but let’s not give Obama and Congress any ideas.

This would be in addition to …
The feds taxing the earnings from my banking accounts as ordinary income.
The feds keeping the interest rates I earn on my bank accounts close to zero so the feds have to pay little when they borrow money to spend on not stimulating the economy while at the same time denying the little people a safe and dependable means to save and accrue wealth.
The feds printing money at the rate of $85 million per month to devalue the worth of my money and to create inflation that is now 2 to 3 percent per year and soon to rise to levels that may make Jimmy Carter look like a piker.
You mean don’t give Paul Ryan and therepublican controlled house of mis representatives any ideas.
Send your tax increase ideas to Paul Ryan because there is no risk of him doing anything with them. And Patty Murray and her Democrat senate colleagues seem to have all the bad ideas they can handle.
Yes, they love tax increases…. Do you think before you type things like this?
The Repubics held a balanced budget in their hands, and eliminated it immediately. The year was 2001.
Take great comfort in that. Now we are 12 years closer to oblivion. Blaming the GOP is useful if one wants to learn the lessons of the recent past. But if blaming the GOP is the only element of your solution to saving the country, we are doomed.
Looking to the GOP for the solution would be the real mistake.
Paul Ryan thinks we need to start phasing out Medicare to get the government out of the health care business, but he voted for Mediare Part D, the largest unfunded expansion of a federal entitlement program ever.
Any Repubic proposals will just be the source of more problems, not any solution.
So bad behavior in the past means we must continue bad behavior?
Ryans voting history means his judgement cant be trusted. His past votes are how we judge his success or failure as a legislator.
Agreed, but your implying cutting is bad because he was wrong with Medicare Part D. That logic doesn’t track.
I’m stating that his intentions are purely political. Where is his serious proposal that has a chance to even pass the Repubic House? The House Repubes wont even get on board with his campaign propaganda cause they know its toxic to any reelection efforts.
It is political, yet will cost them? Geez make up your mind.
Ryans recent budget release has zero chance to even pass the House, but he can now claim in future interviews how he is doing all he can to balance the budget and cut spending but in reality, hes just grandstanding for future political ads.
Ryan is a serious politician, but hes only serious about politics, not governing for the betterment of the citizens he represents.
Until we have a Congress controlled by the same party as the WH, the CR will be how the government is funded.
If BushII had just left the budget alone, he could have paid the debt down, spent a few years with a budget surplus and guaranteed half a generation of Repubic leadership. Oh well, maybe next time…
The whole terrorism/war thing sort of played a factor…
BushII cut taxes during war time for the first time in modern US history. And then, didnt even put the war spending in the budget. Tax revenues as a percentage of GDP have never recovered the the level seen in Y2000.
Not defending the spending, I am pointing it out.
Ryan’s budget will pass the house or at least a similar version of it. It won’t pass the Senate.
Why don’t we discuss the Senate budget instead? Oh yeah, they won’t even pass any budget.
Ryan’s buget only balances quicker because of Obama’s tax increases. Let’s not kid ourselves into rhinking his budget is aggressively cutting anything. I’d like to see a Rand Paul or Ted Cruz budget myself.
That is a blatant lie or you are ignorant. Ryan has never proposed “phasing out Medicare”. He wants to block grant it to the states and cut the rate of growth. Get that, rate of growth, not even real cuts.
Medicare Part D was a bad idea and the Republicans need to own up for it. Where are the Democrat proposals to eliminate it if y’all think it’s so bad?
So, your hero Obama is where we should look? The man who says we don’t have a spending problem. The man who says we need a balanced approach, yet opposes all reductions in spending growth, much less actual cuts.
Or maybe the Democrat controlled Senate? You know the one that hasn’t passed a budget in 4 years.

“WASHINGTON — House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) rolled out his latest budget proposal, offering an ambitious blueprint that promises to balance the budget in a decade by repealing President Barack Obama’s health care reforms and slashing Medicare, Medicaid and programs to help the poor.’”
Read it and weep.

The block grant idea is a proposal to fund Medicaid, not Medicare.
End Medicare Part D…save a $1trillion by 2023.
