What was the reason for dropping Boortz before he ended?
It was a bad business decision by Boortz to telegraph his exit the way he did. Cumulus is running a business, he is telling people he is leaving, nonstop, Cumulus has it’s own shows it wants to clear and he gave them an option.
So, I guess Cumulus would have preferred for Neil to have called them on 1/21/13 and said ‘I quit’?
This sounds more like a case of sour grapes on the part of Cumulus. The problem is that the listeners pay the price for it.

The Geraldo national talk show was coming regardless, Boortz’ 6 month going away party made the decision simple on Cumulus’ part.
It was a stupid business move to tell people your leaving that long in advance.
Here’s the deal. The Dickey Brothers at Cumulus Media are replacing conservative talkers with moderates or liberals. That’s why WVNN carries Mike Huckabee at 8 p.m. and Geraldo at 9 a.m. When Rush’s contract expires, WVNN’s mornings will be Geraldo followed by Huckabee. Keep an eye out Dale, they want “More Conversation, Less Confrontation”, not what’s “Grinding My Gears”.
I hope you’ll excuse the fact that I’m not jumping up and down for joy over this. I think it’s classless that WVNN didn’t stick with Boortz through the fall campaign.

OK, maybe not classless. However, Cumulus must not know its audience very well if they believe that people want to listen to Geraldo instead of Boortz during the heat of the Fall Campaign. I don’t care if he’s leaving in January or not; Boortz is more interesting than Geraldo. Just sayin’.

IWhat’s the big deal? Your just replacing one moron with another.
Geraldo Rivera actually said said he would “bet money” Trayvon Martin was shot because of the hoodie he was wearing. http://moronwatch.net/tag/geraldo-rivera
So if you go along with that line of thinking, I guess rape victims have only themselves to blame because they bathe and cut their hair.

when his views are stupid and biased I have no need to listen. You guys really FU this one. You should stay with what works….Herman Cain would be much better. I now have to find another station during this time slot because I refuse to hear this jackass.
Cumulus is going with Herman Cain. But he’s even more moronic than Boortz or Rivera. A sexual deviant that tried to become president with a number that looks good on a pizza coupon. The man is a cartoon.

So Gerardo’s first guest on Monday is Elliot Spitzer who he introduced as a great political mind! Doesn’t Geraldo know Spitzer bombed on CNN, hires prostitutes to get off, and is Current TV’s talking head! Sorry Dale Cumulus made a huge mistake and they will loose market share including Huntsville. Good luck Dale but your price per ad from 9am to 11am is going to bargain price next market report.

You guys really screwed up with this change. I am an avid listener but will change the station during this time slot. I can not stand to listen to him. Put Bortz and Herman Cain back on….PLEASE
Interesting quote Dragontide but it appears to be made up. The only place I can find that quote listed in on democrat tweets and nobody links to where Paul Ryan actually said it. If he actually said it, please link to something that has a transcript where he said that.
“Unilateral economic restraint in the name of fighting global warming has been a tough sell in our communities, where much of the state is buried under snow.”
Ryan voted to eliminate EPA limits on greenhouse gas pollution. Voted to eliminate White House climate advisers. Voted.to block the U.S. Department of Agriculture from preparing for climate disasters like the drought devastating his home state, and to eliminate the Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E)
Paul Ryan is a card carrying member of the “Scorched Earth Society”. No ifs, ands or buts about it.And Geraldo says he’s the best pick in decades.
Redeye says:
Herman Cain, Neil Boortz, Gerlado…what’s the difference?
It took all of five minutes of listening to Geraldo to prove that to be a valid statement.
Herman Cain, Neil Boortz, Gerlado…what’s the difference?
It took all of five minutes of listening to Geraldo to prove that to be a valid statement.
Intellectually lazy as always… He came out in favor of gay marriage and raising taxes. You guys need to listen a little harder before you say…”DERP, they are all the same.”
It’s Geraldo that’s the intellectually lazy one here. Is losing our port cities to rising seas, starvation from extreme drought and excessive disease that thrives on a warmer climate an acceptable future to you? 42 years in television and Geraldo rolls out the red carpet for Ryan without knowing his most dangerous policies.

You said they were all the same, I said they weren’t. You rattled off a made up quote and then admitted you made it up. Lazy.
Unilateral economic restraint in the name of fighting global warming has been a tough sell in our communities, where much of the state is buried under snow and, more importantly, unemployment in the city of Racine remains over 14%.
means he doesn’t believe in global warning to you? Because it doesn’t say that to me. Says that selling people that they lost their job because of an EPA regulation doesn’t make sense to a lot of people when jobs are tougher to come by.
And why wouldn’t EPA regs make sense? Climate change is destroying more jobs than EPA regs. 62.9% of America is experiencing moderate to severe drought. That number has no place to go but up if we go by the Ryan plan. (Romney’s as well) We’re talking about jobs in agriculture, retail, shipping and restaurant.
Sorry DJ.
You give me far to much credit for paying attention to anything I post or read here. When I read that Abramoff was to be a Clear Channel host, I assumed it was on OTA radio, I didnt even know that Clear Channel own a part of XM.
Jack Abramoff, the former lobbyist who went to federal prison for corruption, is going to be the host of a new talk radio show to offer advice on reforming politics. Premiere Networks, part of Clear Channel Media, announced Wednesday that “The Jack Abramoff Show” would be broadcast on XM Satellite Radio’s Talk Radio channel. Producers say the Washington-based show offers the special perspective of a political insider. It is being produced by the same unit that works with Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Ryan Seacrest.
I assume this was a “Corporate” decision bringing Geraldo to the Rocket city via WVNN. Listened 9-11 (like always) trying hard to remain objective but its not for me, sorry WVNN, you lost another listener for this time slot. Yes Dale, I’ll tune in early for you.
Dale, I caught a bit of your program this morning. As usual, you and Dr. Brown were rockin’ it. It was one of the best discussions I’ve heard to date on the Ryan pick, local or national.

Joe : Do not like Geraldo on Fox and don’t like him on WVNN. He is no Neal Boortz or Herman Cain. He claims he is a registered Republican but his views/positions are not consistent with that claim.
Speaking of replacements for Boortz or as an addition to Dale, maybe WVNN should also pick up Carl Boyd, Jr. (Nashville radio). I’d heard him a couple of times while driving on Sunday afternoons from that N’ville station, 99.7, I think (I think he’s only on that one day). Just picked up his name this past week. He’s different – got an edge like Boortz, and has a Herman Cain quality. Kind of a blended, Carl “Boormacain” Boyd quality.
Respectfully … please go with someone (anyone) besides Geraldo Rivera. I’ve listened you guys for many years. The last 2 days have simply been horrid. You guys can do sooo much better than this.
I’ll still listen to you Dale, but I’m switching to another station at 9 until programming changes.
I ‘ve listened to Gerald about 4 minutes total. Twice for 30 seconds or less and once for 3+ minutes to see if there was any indication that his presence was temporary. Four minutes is enough.
Wow … WVNN is promotting Geraldo Rivera who is now arguing for bullet registration … not just gun registration!
Nazi Weapons Act of 1938 … All citizens who wished to purchase firearms had to register with the Nazi officials and have a background check. Shortly after that weapons were seazed from those considered hostile to regime.

Nazi Weapons Act of 1938 … All citizens who wished to purchase firearms had to register with the Nazi officials and have a background check. Shortly after that weapons were seazed from those considered hostile to regime.
Call him, an opposing view is OK every now and then.
Many listeners did call in opposition. My point in my post was that it’s become tedious to listen to WVNN with that sort of naïveté. At least with most talk show hosts I listen to there is some sort of common understanding of Founding principles … one which would never consider registration of bullets (or firearms). It’s the first step towards tyranny.
It is our duty to resist statist encroachments. Thomas Jefferson was quoted as saying “Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God.” How might a citizenry resist tyranny if they have no weaponry (should the need ever arise)?
“Call him, an opposing view is OK every now and then.”
But every day 9-11, not OK. How are Rico Swave’s rating thus far? Any positive feedback at all, besides the one guy who called your show and said he was OK.
Realistically, if Geraldo’s ratings are as bad, nation-wide, as I suspect, how long until Cumulus drops him like a hot rock?
Perhaps I’m a little slow in getting the obvious … but maybe WVNN doesn’t have a choice with Geraldo Rivera … perhaps it is directed by their owner, Cumulus Media. Otherwise, it defies logic considering the Huntsville area market.
Tried listening to Geraldo again. Really, I made an honest, good faith attempt, but just can’t take it. I may find that Boortz link or just listen to the traffic outside. I can’t take listening to his liberal guest garbage and all their associated blather.
Does WVNN charge advertisers less for the 9-11 am slot? They should. In fact, come to think of it, I don’t know any business owners who would really want to be associated with that.
Whoever is responsible for Geraldo on WVNN made a very poor business decision. Sort of like replacing the exceptional Will Anderson with Dale Jackson. I remember when Jackson first came on line with his Adenoids limited voice and he used the term ‘irregardless”, I knew then we were exposed to a ‘limited’ capability individual. Geraldo would have been more welcome on Air America and you know just how successful Air America was. Jackson, as a boomer, obviously you are not guilty of any decision errors. I didn’t agree with Boortz on some items but he was and is a very strong political commentator. I have left WVNN from 9 to 11 and, obviously, I am not into the “grind my gears” limited mentality or the limited voice sound of Adenoids Jackson.
Whoever is responsible for Geraldo on WVNN made a very poor business decision.
I doubt you know much about the radio business.
Sort of like replacing the exceptional Will Anderson with Dale Jackson.
That never happened. I replaced Fred Holland.
I remember when Jackson first came on line with his Adenoids limited voice and he used the term ‘irregardless”, I knew then we were exposed to a ‘limited’ capability individual.
Yeah, I am not the most well known political personality in this state. Totally, no credibility.
Also, you clearly stopped listening… Right? Oh wait, you still do.
Geraldo would have been more welcome on Air America and you know just how successful Air America was.
Good job, a blind squirrel finds a nut.
Jackson, as a boomer, obviously you are not guilty of any decision errors.
I am 33.
I didn’t agree with Boortz on some items but he was and is a very strong political commentator.
Boortz signed his own death warrant on WVNN with a 6 month long going away party. Herman Cain was the last straw there.
I have left WVNN from 9 to 11 and, obviously, I am not into the “grind my gears” limited mentality or the limited voice sound of Adenoids Jackson.
Please leave entirely, we don’t want or need your embarrassing ignorance.
Surely, a man of such brilliance will correct his errors and acknowledge his mistakes.
I always correct my errors and acknowledge my mistakes. But I see no errors or mistakes that need correcting. You appear to use the same “business” logic as the Huntsville times. Oh, at 33, I consider you a Boomer product you are all from a culture that refuses to accept responsibility for anything because ‘everybody else does it” and it isn’t “fair” to be judgemental. P.S. if you think putting Heraldo on the local radio is knowing “the radio business” then you do have a real problem. Air America is looking out for Knolegable individuals such as you.
I always correct my errors and acknowledge my mistakes.
Good.
But I see no errors or mistakes that need correcting.
Read again, I laid them all out.
You appear to use the same “business” logic as the Huntsville times.
I didn’t make the Geraldo call, I do understand it. You don’t.
Oh, at 33, I consider you a Boomer product you are all from a culture that refuses to accept responsibility for anything because ‘everybody else does it” and it isn’t “fair” to be judgemental
Well, that is interesting because…
A)That is not what Boomers are.
B)I am not one
C)THat sounds nothing like me. This quote, “refuses to accept responsibility for anything because ‘everybody else does it” and it isn’t “fair” to bn “judgemental”, is insane in both it’s innacuracy and stupidity. I am the most judgemental human being you will every meet. Watch this… You are a fucking idiot.
P.S. if you think putting Heraldo on the local radio is knowing “the radio business” then you do have a real problem. Air America is looking out for Knolegable individuals such as you.
Read the above comments, both the one about you not understanding radio, it not being my call and the one about you being a fucking idiot… read that one twice.
Your foul language underlies your limited capabilities. Cursing is the crutch of the conversational cripple. Most liberals use such language. Obviously I have hit a nerve. “irregardless” of your attemps to try and make sense you can’t. OBTW my description of the boomer is right on the point and dyour written response confirms my point.
I’ve been trying to give Geraldo a chance, I really have. However, his voice annoys me, his views annoy me, his callers annoy me. I’m sorry for WVNN, but I’m no longer listening between 9 & 11.
I blog quite often and I seriously thank you for your content. The article has truly peaked my interest. I will take a note of your blog and keep checking for new information about once per week. I subscribed to your RSS feed too.
Instead, I’ll be following the rest of the Neal Boortz Happy Ending through 1/20/13 on WSB radio. Here’s the link:
http://streaming.wsbradio.com/_players/coxradio/index.php?callsign=WSBAM
Or, you can use iHeartRadio on the iPhone. It’s a shame I can’t follow it on WVNN.
Just started listening thanks to your link as soon as I heard Elliot Spitzer as Geraldos first guest. Give me a break!
What was the reason for dropping Boortz before he ended?

Here’s the deal. The Dickey Brothers at Cumulus Media are replacing conservative talkers with moderates or liberals. That’s why WVNN carries Mike Huckabee at 8 p.m. and Geraldo at 9 a.m. When Rush’s contract expires, WVNN’s mornings will be Geraldo followed by Huckabee. Keep an eye out Dale, they want “More Conversation, Less Confrontation”, not what’s “Grinding My Gears”.
If true, that won’t go over well for the Huntsville area market. I’ve enjoyed Dale stirring things up … for things that need stirring up, that is.
I hope you’ll excuse the fact that I’m not jumping up and down for joy over this. I think it’s classless that WVNN didn’t stick with Boortz through the fall campaign.
It’s not classless, it was a bad business decision by Boortz to telegraph his exit the way he did. Cumulus is running a business, he is telling people he is leaving, nonstop, Cumulus has it’s own shows it wants to clear and he gave them an option.

This is a bigger move than Huntsville, AL.
IWhat’s the big deal? Your just replacing one moron with another.

I have no problem with him or anybody voicing an opinion. But when it’s a stupid opinion, expect criticism.
He was right.
He’s wrong. Trayvon Martin was not shot for wearing a hoodie. George Zimmerman is a demented man. End of story.
Whatever you want to believe, I will listen to the words of the guy who shot him…
I realize what he said wasn’t PC and that bothers you, that life.
Should have gone with Herman Cain
Herman Cain, Geraldo Rivera, other than the obvious what’s the difference? It’s still all right wing talk all the time, unfair and unbalanced.
Surely, you love listening to opposing views. You don’t even acknowledge other views in conversations you have.
when his views are stupid and biased I have no need to listen. You guys really FU this one. You should stay with what works….Herman Cain would be much better. I now have to find another station during this time slot because I refuse to hear this jackass.

Um… what? Cumulus is going with Rivera.
It’s not a split? Boortz will not be on any Cumulus stations?
Boortz is retiring, Cumulus is syndicating Geraldo. I know of know Cumulus stations keeping Boortz.
So Gerardo’s first guest on Monday is Elliot Spitzer who he introduced as a great political mind! No guarantees in life or business…
So much for listening to opposing points of view.
Didn’t you say you refuse to listen to conservative talk radio? Hypocrite.
Well, that’s two hours a day I will not be listening to wvnn.
That comment was directed to those who said they weren’t going to listen to wvnn during the times Geraldo was on like Dragon.
You guys really screwed up with this change. I am an avid listener but will change the station during this time slot. I can not stand to listen to him. Put Bortz and Herman Cain back on….PLEASE
Day one. Rivera sucks already. He claims to be a moderate. But he’s clearly another right-wing nut job. “Paul Ryan is the best VP pick in decades”??!!
What’s next? Rivera trying to convince his listeners the Koch Brothers are ethical?
Herman Cain, Neil Boortz, Gerlado…what’s the difference?
So liberals and conservatives hate Geraldo?
Liberals don’t people because they have a different point of view . All hate all the time is a compassionate,,Christian, conservative, family value.
Typo should read liberals don’t hate people just because they have a different point of view.
Half your post are ignorant ramblings and the other half are corrections of your own ignorant ramblings.
Yes, that sounds like you have much respect and no hate for Christian conservatives.

The man thinks climate change is not real because some snow fell in Wisconsin during the Winter. And all you care about is how he worded it?
If the comment is so damning, there is no reason to lie.
OK, so Ryan saying

Please get rid of geraldo. He is horrible. Please return to previous programming.
Get Jack Abramoff, a real insider that knows where the bodies are buried.
Still pretending that guy is a talk show host, eh?
Eh.
I didnt know he was on XM.

Ooohh. Ryan Seacrest. Get him! Get him!
Perfect Obama voter, don’t take responsibility for your own words.

Dale, I listened to you as a leadin to Boortz. That has changed as of today Cumulus no longer fits my Corporate needs!
Hey, don’t punish me!
Dale, I’ll still listen to you on Thursdays. Dr. Jess Brown is fantastic!
I’ll take it.
Dale, I caught a bit of your program this morning. As usual, you and Dr. Brown were rockin’ it. It was one of the best discussions I’ve heard to date on the Ryan pick, local or national.
I really appreciate that.
So, cumulus decided to replace a talk show host with 40+ years of experience with Geraldo Rivera. A talk show host with a 40 I.Q. What a joke.
Essentially, I would disagree with the 40IQ.
Your right, it’s probably lower than 40.
lol!

Non-radio people don’t get the radio business. Newspaper people are the worst at this.

I have left WVNN from 9 to 11 and, obviously, I am not into the “grind my gears” limited mentality or the limited voice sound of Adenoids Jackson.
Let me tell you why you are dumbass…
I doubt you know much about the radio business.
That never happened. I replaced Fred Holland.
Yeah, I am not the most well known political personality in this state. Totally, no credibility.
Also, you clearly stopped listening… Right? Oh wait, you still do.
Good job, a blind squirrel finds a nut.
I am 33.
Boortz signed his own death warrant on WVNN with a 6 month long going away party. Herman Cain was the last straw there.
Please leave entirely, we don’t want or need your embarrassing ignorance.
Surely, a man of such brilliance will correct his errors and acknowledge his mistakes.
Idiot.
Good.
Read again, I laid them all out.
I didn’t make the Geraldo call, I do understand it. You don’t.
“Yeah, I am not the most well known political personality in this state. Totally, no credibility. ”
I am suddenly very sad. How can that be true?
Cry all you want about it… you can’t disprove it.
I’ve been trying to give Geraldo a chance, I really have. However, his voice annoys me, his views annoy me, his callers annoy me. I’m sorry for WVNN, but I’m no longer listening between 9 & 11.
I have moved to 101.1 for my 8-9 am listening. Laura ingraham is super! But Jackson would be clueless abut this.
Were you in tears when you wrote this?
I blog quite often and I seriously thank you for your content. The article has truly peaked my interest. I will take a note of your blog and keep checking for new information about once per week. I subscribed to your RSS feed too.
I stop listening to this station from 7-11am due to Geraldo and won’t come back as long as he is on the air. I now listen to 101.5
