2/22: It’s Lent, so let’s get stupid on religion…

Guest today:

  • 7:30 AM – Former Huntsville Mayor and Candidate for Mayor Loretta Spencer
  • 8:00 AM – Former Congressman and current pundit Artur Davis

Lent is here

The traditional purpose of Lent is the penitential preparation of the believer—through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving, and self-denial. Its institutional purpose is heightened in the annual commemoration of Holy Week, marking the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events of the Passion of Christ on Good Friday, which then culminates in the celebration on Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

During Lent, many of the faithful commit to fasting or giving up certain types of luxury as a form of penitence.

The day Catholic’s give up something for a few days and then say, “screw it”.

I am a bad Catholic but I am still going to try to give up any food that I can get through a drive-thru for Lent.

Firehouse Subs is still ok, right?

See ya the Monday after Easter, McDonald’s.

Speaking of religion, seems like we are back to the moronic media narrative of “this Republican is a moron, so all Republicans are” starring Rick Santorum supporter Franklin Graham

The Rev. Franklin Graham is certain that former Sen. Rick Santorum is a Christian. He’s less sure about President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Mr. Graham, the son of the legendary evangelist Rev. Billy Graham, said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that, regarding Mr. Romney’s faith, most Christians do not accept Mormons as being true Christians. And he said he can’t be sure about Mr. Obama because he doesn’t know what’s in his heart.

Good to know…

Asked first about Mr. Obama, he suggested that people should ask him directly when he is a Christian. In fact, Mr. Obama has volunteered many times that he is a Christian. But Mr. Graham said that Mr. Obama did not persuade him when the pair discussed it before Mr. Obama was elected. “I have no idea what he really believes,” he said.

He added that the Muslim world considers him a “son of Islam,” because Mr. Obama’s father was Muslim, and said he cannot rule  it out. “I can’t say categorically because Islam has gotten a free pass under Obama,” he said. He said that in the aftermath of the Arab Spring uprisings, Christians are being persecuted and Mr. Obama has not spoken out forcefully enough against it.

“Barack Obama is an incredible man…he could be speaking to these countries right now, demanding that they protect the Christians in those countries, and he’s been quiet about it,” he said.

There is more…

He was later asked about Mr. Romney, who has struggled to win support from some evangelical Christians who don’t view Mormons as Christians. Mr. Graham said they are right but also said Mr. Romney would be a “good president.”

Asked if he was a Christian, Mr. Graham said: “He’s a Mormon. Most Christians would not recognize Mormonism as part of the Christian faith.”

He said he has no doubts about Mr. Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator who has built a reputation as a uncompromising social conservative.

Asked if he is a Christian, Mr. Graham said, “I think so…because his values are so clear on moral issues, no question about it … I think he is, no question, a man of faith.”

Obama decided not to respond…

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney declined a chance to respond. “I did meet with the president this morning for about 45 minutes. And amazingly, he didn’t bring this up, because he was actually talking about policy issues that he believes are the most important things he can do and he can focus on as president.” He did note that Mr. Obama spoke extensively about his faith at the recent National Prayer Breakfast.

Bad move, he should hammer this all day and point out how stupid this guy is.

A Romney spokesman had no comment.

Romney too.

The funny part about this is that Santorum is a Catholic, which some Christians view as a cult.

Get ready for this issue to come up at eh debate tonight.

Thanks, Rick Santorum supporters.

And Jesus is frustrated with you…

More religious zealots

More than 2,000 angry Afghans protested outside an American air base on Tuesday after they learned that copies of the Quran (Koran), the Muslim holy book, were burned in a pile of garbage at a sprawling U.S. military base north of Kabul.

“Die, die, foreigners!” the demonstrators shouted. Some fired rifles into the air. Others threw rocks at the gate of the base.

Just like God would have wanted.

3 Afghans dead over this…

  1. You left out the part where Baby Graham said the world would be better with Hosni Mubarak still in power. Apparently oppressing Muslims is okay, so long as you protect Christians.

  2. Hrm… I thought only God could judge what is in a man’s heart. Just because you say the right things doesn’t mean you are a (true) Christian. I believe its Matthew 7:22-23 that Jesus says that there will be people who will call on him but will not enter the kingdom of heaven. That Jesus will say away from me, evil doers?

    • The problem with Baby Graham’s answer is that he’s inconsistent.

“I can’t say what Obama believes because you can’t see in to another man’s heart. …Oh, Santorum? Totally a Christian, no doubt.”
