Les Phillip can’t be trusted (alternate title: Les Phillip is Parker Griffith)…

Before I get into this post, I want to explain a few things…

I don’t do this lightly, but I feel it is necessary for a few reasons.

  • This race (AL-05) has been framed as those with integrity vs. those without.
  • I have built my name, my ratings and my position in The Tennessee Valley by being brutally (sometime obnoxiously) honest, so when I am called a liar, I will respond.
  • To paraphrase John Wayne in The Shootist, “I won’t be wronged. I won’t be laid a-hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” Now, you’ll notice I deleted the ‘I won’t be insulted’ line. The reason I did is simple. I insult people daily and am fine with being on the receiving end of insults. However, I will not let someone try to tarnish my name and my career with BS. I will not be wronged and no slight is too small.
    • This is the main reason why I did not take a plea deal from Troy King when his office tried to roast me over the greatest joke ever told. They had no case and they knew it. They wanted to make me pay for asking King if he was gay and I was gonna be damned if I went down without a fight. So, I fought. I was right. I won. (Sidenote: The Phillip campaign is actually trying to make this State Seal issue a problem for Mo Brooks, after repeatedly voicing support for me during the ordeal. That includes asking me to emcee the Mike Huckabee debacle. I declined because I didn’t want to draw attention away from his event.)

That said, Les Phillip is a liar and when backed into a corner, he has no problem taking a page from Parker Griffith’s book. He’s lying to salvage the BS narrative he is selling.

This is unacceptable, based on the message this man has been deceptively selling to Alabama’s 5th Congressional District. You can tell a lot about a man’s character and true nature when his back is against the wall.

That’s when you have two options:

  1. Fight honorably and maybe lose.
  2. Fight dishonorably and deserve to lose.

Les has sadly chosen option #2.

Since the beginning of Les’ campaign for Congress, people watched an exciting newcomer play the political game. Little actual attention was given to his candidacy, other than a Mike Huckabee fundraiser, the purchase of the Huckabee endorsement and the exposure of the bust of that fundraiser.

But, political nerds like you and I watched as Les gave running for Congress a crack.

It has been fun watching conservatives, who complained about Obama not being vetted, latch onto Phillip– who is actually more unknown.

He’s run on a message of being different and being outside of the system. Part of that is true. He is outside the system and because of that, he’s surrounded himself with idiots.

Sadly, these idiots thought it made sense to smear a candidate with religious bigotry (a tactic Parker Griffith is now using) and crazy accusations without factual backup.

  • Thomas Beach, Director of Nuttery, says Mo Brooks is a secret Mormon and supports ‘Cap and Trade.’ If you listen to Phillip, he actually continuously floats the Sierra Club line without the guts to try to pin it on Mo Brooks. Innuendo and garbage is all this about.
  • Jamie Gilliam, former PR manager, floated the ‘secret Mormon’ crap as well. (Note: Gilliam quit after Les’ embarrassing ‘good ol boy’ press release and other issues.)

Les’ strategy has been to let his minions do the attacking, while he tries to play nice guy.

Good idea.

Sadly he has morons executing that plan. Still, that seems like a “top down” strategy. Now, he could have actually been a good guy. Unfortunately, that requires integrity and Les has none.

These guys actually thought voters would be amazed by a Navy Veteran, who loves the constitution, but ignored the fact that Les was/is unable to articulate anything outside of that framework. People tried to help him broaden his message. He refused or could not.

This amateur campaign is yielding amateur results. Here are some examples:

  • Being taken by a questionable fundraising entity.
  • Whining about being ‘in the race first.’
  • Being unable to substantiate any claims of being a business man other than his wife running a restaurant (which is very good). Question for his supporters (answer in the comments): What has he done since his time in the Navy? I don’t know. Is there a resume? Why don’t we get specifics of job creation?
  • Focusing on out-of-district support.
  • Childish and stupid press releases.
  • Tantrums, including telling the local black chamber of commerce he is the only one who cares about black businesses, yelling at bloggers who dare be critical and attempting to take pictures of a talk show host talking with his old (Democrat) campaign consultant, David Driscoll.

That last one just shows what Les Phillip is all about: garbage politics.

His goal was to ‘get dirty’ (his words) and use that photo to somehow hurt me. How? I’m not sure, but he gave me a great radio bit when I “got out in front of it” and admitted my indiscretion to my listeners.

Phillip’s response was to then go on a radio station with 1/30th (and I am being kind) the audience and call me ‘Dr. Evil’, accusing me and my listeners of having ‘tin foil hat fantasies.’ He followed up that embarrassing display with a lie so ridiculous, it makes me feel stupid typing it out.

Here is what he said… (audio)

Les: Actually what happened was, I, because I am a  little bit older and I don’t have the 20/15 vision anymore. I was reading an e-mail and then I said “Ohhhh! i tell you what there’s he is over there and I snapped a picture, showed it to my friend who was sitting with me. It was a bad picture anyway because I couldn’t see anyone because I was sitting DOWN, not standing up going, “Oooh I need to get this” and then we deleted it and that was that.

Keep in mind, this is after telling members of his staff that he didn’t take any pictures and had no clue what I was talking about.

I will quote it…

Les says he never took any pic.

The host, who Phillip in the past has called “a joke”, of course did not ask about the key part of this: the “getting dirty” comment. They were too interested in cackling over Austin Powers’ quotes. Good radio there. Makes me wonder why I am the dominant political talk show in the area and will be until the day I choose to leave.

That aside, Les Phillip and his answer says a lot about the man.

He knows damn well he took the picture, so he wasn’t going to deny it, especially given the number of witnesses I have (including a Les Phillip contributor and another former employee of his campaign).

He sure as hell wasn’t going to come on my show and deny it because I would eat his ass alive and he knows it. But, this is the second time in a week he has gone on lesser radio shows with a fraction of the audience to trash me when he knows damn well he can come here to this website (as he has in the past) or come on my show (as he has done dozens of times) and set the record straight, face to face.

But, when you don’t have the facts right on your side, he decides to go and hide.

Is this what they teach Naval aviators about courage? Doubtful.

I thought he was going to bring ‘blood and guts’ to DC and fight everyone he had to to protect the Constitution… or something like that.

A candidate’s integrity should be a huge concern for all voters. Les Phillip, like Parker Griffith, has none. And when pushed into a corner, he had two choices:

  1. Fight honorably and maybe lose.
  2. Fight dishonorably and deserve to lose.

Remember, he chose #2.

And he deserves to lose.

His website hilariously states, ‘this is no time for politics’, while he attempts to run a campaign that would make Cheryl Baswell Guthries’ train-wreck look respectable.

I promise you this, he will not top her performance at the polls in ’08.

I would like to issue a challenge/ultimatum to Les Phillip.

Come on my program. Explain all of the issues I’ve raised and acknowledge to my listeners that you did in fact take that picture and make the comments about “playing dirty”, or I will close my door to your campaign. Maybe you feel that is irrelevant, but you didn’t feel that way in the past when commenting that if Parker Griffith couldn’t face down Dale Jackson, he couldn’t fight for us in DC, or when you called him a coward for ducking me.

Are you a coward, Mr. Phillip?

Also, if you do come on by 9AM, Tuesday, April 13th, I will also give you one 3-hour show on WVNN to push your candidacy before the June 1st primary.

What will Les do?

Will he man up and take on big bad liar Dale Jackson… OR will he, like Parker Griffith, attempt to marginalize the largest voting block that will go to the polls on June 1st?

Will he only frequent friendly media outlets like Parker Griffith?

Is he, like Griffith, afraid of hard questions?

How is that working out for ‘The Good Doctor’?

  1. I listen to the talk show Dale is talking about. The host had Les on as a guest and the tease before the show was that they would be discussing Dr Evil. I just knew that Dr Evil was going to be Dr Griffith. I was hooked…any anti-Griffith chat interests me. I was shocked to find that Les’s Dr Evil diatribe was aimed at Dale Jackson. Dale’s name was never mentioned but I knew who they were talking about. Of course we all know that Dale is all important but I could not believe Les was waisting time on a silly non issue, aimed at some radio talk show host. Why would he get in a pissing match with Dale and cut himself off from a very useful media tool for his campaign.
One of the other things Les went on about was his military experience. I love and respect those who have served in the military. My father, sister and nephew have served and they have all of my gratitude and respect but military service is not enough to win my vote. Les’s campaign spending bothers me and I don’t see a fiscally responsible candidate here. Enough already with using the military card.
One more thing and I will never speak of Les again. I had to quit following him on twitter because he kept going on and on with quotes by the founding fathers and other random quotes. I enjoy a quote now and then but this was to much, seemed as though he has no thoughts or ideas of his own.
Les has not lived up to the hype and Dale has exposed it. To bad for him because he could have had a promising carer in the political scene if he had been able to handle these simple challenges. He is not ready for prime time.

  2. Dale, I too have personnally witnessed unscrupulous activity with the Les Phillip campaign. I posted a (civil) comment on Les Phillip’s facebook about his unprofessional “good ole boy” comment on Wayne Parkers endorsement of Mo Brooks. Les Phillip’s has subsequently removed my comment and has somehow put me in “read only” mode where I can no longer post comments to the Les Phillips facebook. I confronted Les about this at the recent Tea Party Express event at the Space & Rocket Center. I asked Les if he was for censorship. Les stated no he was not for censorship. Les told me he would take care of the face book issue. Contrary to what Les told me, he has subsequently removed comments from my husband which were non-volatile. Bottom line is my limited experience with Les Phillip is that he says one thing and does another. I started out a fan but that star has flamed out. If Les cannot be trusted and a man of integrity on the simplest of issues (facebook postings no doubt) then how will he respond to the challenges and issues of our government. The man appears to be an amatuer. What happened with the aviator? What has Les done with his life that demonstrates continuity, work ethic, or leadership? He has various and sundry jobs but nothing that demonstrates that he can stick with something for more than a year or two and then he moves on. Weakness and lack of initiative is not what we want as representative in congress.

    • Linda… you must be the crazy lady who stalks Vince and others on facebook, posting bad things. How about you shut your lying mouth and stop spreading your devilish lies just because the only thing you’re good at is trying to destroy a good man’s reputation. You are pathetic ma’am. Les probably doesn’t respond to a lot of you, Linda, because he is busy working hard on the campaign, and he has better things to do than defend himself from morons like you. You call the Les people whiners (doesn’t make sense first of all), but you are the ones whining on and on about how Les won’t come on your evil radio station and waste his time talking to you about the random false crap you come up with just to make him look bad. Are you working on the Les Phillip campaign? NO. Everything you say is ludicrous and you expect people to believe it!

Someone supporting or even working for Mo Brooks, is going around in (maybe a blue truck) and stalking a Les staff member as she puts up signs. And the Mo minion takes up the signs as she places them. Absolutely pathetic! And you call yourselves Republicans. Pathetic! I’m tired fo hearing your crap, you’re going to face a lot of judgement from God when you have to answer for this and who knows what other awful things you are doing besides lying insanely and devilishly. The blue truck person is also taking up the Les signs that are in yards where the yard owner requested to have a sign put up!

  3. I have seen Les delete several negative comments on his facebook page. Les’ entire campaign is done over the internet and all I see is negative, negative, negative. Does this guy have anything REAL positive to say about himself? It’s as if his entire campaign is based upon smearing everyone else and us all trusting him to be better than everyone else when we know NOTHING about him. To me, it seems like he’s trying to use Republicans’ desire for a black leader to get him an easy political career.

    • To me, it seems like he’s trying to use Republicans’ desire for a black leader to get him an easy political career.

Up until last week I wouldn’t have agreed with you, but after hearing of his statements to the Black Chamber of Commerce coupled with his “good ‘ol boy” statement (which I didn’t think was racial at first) I think you may be on to something.

  4. This is ridiculous. I started out really respecting Les. My husband and I met him for lunch with some coworkers and we were so impressed. He came out to our business and spoke about his stance on issues and answered our questions. My husband and I even offered to help him campaign (which never happened because his campaign staff is the most disorganized group of people I know). Now, I can honestly say that I am completely embarrassed to have ever been associated with the guy. I want nothing to do with him. I am ashamed that I even considered trusting Les with my vote. Reading through all the comments on the previous posts about Les make me sick. I am so glad his true character is coming out now before I made the horrible mistake of voting for him. Thanks for telling the truth Dale!

  5. I really wanted to believe in Les Phillip. When I met him he seemed to be an honest, patriotic American who simply wanted to do the right thing. Now I realize that much of that was little more than his “political face.” The dirty politics from him and his campaign was not what I expected. It does speak to the man’s character. With all the insanity going on in DC, integrity is increasingly important to me. We can send smooth talking politicians who will smile at you and tell you what you want to hear all day long and nothing in Washington will change. It is extremely important for me personally to be able to trust the people who represent me. Sadly I do not think I can trust Les Phillip any more.

    • To me, it’s about accountability. The minute I wasn’t praising him he became hesitant about my show and now they have frozen me out. He is getting really bad advice or ignoring good advice.

  6. Les has demonstrated that he also is a politician. While it is exciting to see a black man criticize Obama, cannot understand why he is recently criticizing Mo Brooks, while he should be putting his flaming attacks on the liberal Parker Griffith. Reality is that a black man cannot be elected in Alabama, so the campaign of Les Phillip is simply an academic discussion.

    • A black man can absolutely be elected in Alabama. However, he needs to have integrity and be trustworthy before he will get my vote.

      • I believe that a black man can be elected in Alabama. Especially North Alabama. The Democrat Party is inherently more racist than the Republican in that white Democrats will not elect a black man to represent them in most places but white conservative Republicans, Libertarians and Independents will evaluate people based on their integrity and beliefs rather than color of skin. I lift up J.C. Watts as an example of white conservatives represented by a conservative black man.

Les Philip had a hard hill to climb in opposing Mo Brooks to begin with. His liability was more in being a relative newcomer to the area rather than being black. Had he chosen the high road, he could have been viable in the future. Dale is right, it is better to lose and keep your integrity.

        • Please expound on your charges of racism among Democrats, Steve. I see your Oklahoma Congressman J. C. Watts, who also happened to be a very popular QB for the Oklahoma Sooners, and I’ll raise you Democrats John Conyers, Charles Rangel, Ed Towns, John Lewis, Donald Payne, Maxine Waters, Sanford Bishop, Corrine Brown, Jim Clyburn, Alcee Hastings, Eddie Bernice Johnson, Bobby Rush, Robert C Scott, Jesse Jackson, Jr., Mel Watt, Bennie Thompson, Chakka Fattah, Sheila Jackson Lee, Elijah Cummings, Danny K. Davis, Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, Gregory W. Meeks, Barbara Lee, William Lacy Clay, Jr., Diane Watson, Artur Davis, Kendrick Meek, David Scott, G. K. Butterfield, Emanuel Cleaver, Al Green, Gwen Moore, Yvette D. Clarke, Keith Ellison, Hank Johnson, Laura Richardson, André Carson, Donna Edwards and Marcia Fudge.

However, since I only included “current” members of Congress, J. C. Watts wouldn’t be considered a Republican Congressman, since he left office in January of 2003. The only current black Republican in Congress is … uh…. uh…. OOPS!!! There isn’t one.

          • It is quite possible, Johnny, that you don’t even have a point. Or perhaps you are arguing with a different person than Steve and are not aware of it. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the voting results in the districts of the legislators you mention. I don’t have time to get into it, aothough I’m sure it can be checked out without a great deal of difficulty. But Steve said that “white Democrats will not elect a black man to represent them in most places”. I wonder what percent of the white voting Democrats vs. what percent of the black voting Democrats were responsible for electing the people you mention. If in every case it was the white vote that elected them, you still would not have proved your point. We would have to know the results of all Democrat primary elections involving black candidates. My point is that Steve’s statement is worded in such a way as to require more than a shallow analysis to disprove it. Having said that, I disagree with Steve. I think many white Democrats would vote for a liberal black candidate regardless of other issues in the campaign because it gives them a sense of “righteousness” to be able to say they voted for a black person.

            • Jeff, Steve said that the Democratic Party is inherently more racist than the Republican party. My point was that that particular statement was just so much BS. I’m not stating that the white people of either party are not inherently more racist than the ones in the other. My point was that his statement was dead wrong. Let’s at least make honest statements, instead of blatant lies.

  7. Whats this about racism? Les Phillip is whiter than Autur Davis and im not talking about skin color..

  8. In today’s Huntsville Times Les Phillip says he has an MBA from the University of Phoenix. That place is a diploma mill and multiple people on Redstone Arsenal got in trouble for using them for career advancement.

“”I am the only one of us who has an international business background,” said Phillip, saying he also holds an MBA from the online Phoenix University. “That’s the engine that pulls the train. I want the small business to grow to become big businesses.”

Phillip has said he worked at Arrow Electronic for several years, as program manager, and spent a year at Vulcan Materials. He now identifies himself as a small-business owner.
According to state records, Phillip’s wife owns a catering and restaurant business called The Budding Chef. Phillip said he oversees business development and that the couple hope to turn the establishment into a franchise.”

He also said he is involved in “business development” for the cooking school his wife started and runs so can we drop the “Les Phillip, businessman” claptrap.

    • Les appears to be a poser and it is all about the “cult of personality”. Go post a question on the Les Phillip campaign Facebook and ask Les what is his experience in international business. See if you get an answer.
Also ask Les for a complete resume of job / business experience showing all years from when he quit the Navy in 1993 to present time. So far Les Phillip deletes questions asking for experience / resume rather than having the courtesy to respond. Makes you suspect he is holding back on info and he is not proud of his resume. I get the feeling that he has been a bit of a drifter since quitting the Navy in 1993 and what he has shown of his resume appears weak as he has not demonstrated any endurance with staying consistent in a career path. It is a bit concerning to have a congressional candidate that has not laid out the full story and the media is apparently not asking for it. Scary. Reminds me of 2008 pres. election.

  9. Hey everyone, why don’t you stop letting this slimeball, Dale Jackson, blindly run your opinions, and open your eyes to an honest, good man who is going to make heroic changes in our nation…LES PHILLIP. So listen up! I am Mark Alan Johnson (son of a very wise pastor of a father and a loving, caring mother), I am seventeen years old, and I support Les Phillip with ALL OF MY GOOD HEART. Anyone who constructs and builds a site with pages devoted to hatefully criticizing fellow Republican is a definite fool. I know Les Phillip closer than probably any of the hateful people on here ever will, so stop listening and/or supporting false, blind accusations directed at Les Phillip just because your moron mentor, Dale Jackson came up with them. I’m sorry but if you’re listening to anything Dale Jackson has to say about this race, you are living under a rock. Not to insult anyone because you can always crawl out from that rock and try to actually know just what the hell you are talking about. If you want to call me out on these things then do so. I will defend Les with all of my heart. I am NOT afraid to. So before you throw these sinful, spiteful balls of ravenous Dale Jackson hate at a GREAT man like Les Phillip, take the time to find stuff out or come help Les and you can actually learn a lot. Because if any of you knew more than what this moron sleezeball here tells you, you wouldn’t be hating on Les.

I can tell you many bad things that I know about Mo Brooks that are true. And I’m only 17! You people are probably my elders, that’s a little sad that even I know what I’m talking about and a lot of you are just agreeing with this nonsense. Wake up! Les Phillip is beginning to be known nationally! His new ad is close to going national. I wouldn’t be suprised if it appeared on Glen Beck. Les is also going to be going on the radio with some interesting individuals. Bet you didn’t know that! So before you start verbally assaulting a future national hero, mind your tongue.

Now before you do something cowardly like edit this comment or some bullshit, be a man and call me out if this comment bothers you. I’m willing to defend Les. I’m no political debater or genious, but I know Les, and I am already starting to know you Dale Jackson. I know that most of this page is hipocritical. You said you would be honored to have Les or mo win back in October or something of 2009. Now you say he is dishonorable. There are countless other stupid hipocritical things on here, but my point is that you are a piece of shit, Dale Jackson.

Call me out! But I don’t recommend trying to have me on your radio station or something because I would have to beat your face in if I was in reach. You really stomp and spit on my very soul when you say something bad about Les, because I’ve met him, I’ve been to his speeches in person.

Look me up somehow if you need proof that I’m not a secret Les worker, psshh. I go to Bob Jones high school. I am white and I will be wearing a white t-shirt, brown shorts, and sneakers, and a black back pack as I cross Hughes road on foot to Bob Jones at the cross walk tomorrow (May 27,2010) between 7:40 A.M. and 8:10 A.M. Look for me you little prick, if you want evidence.

I’m 17 and in high school and I definitely no more about Les Phillip’s side of the race than this total moronic dumbass here knows. Dale is all blasphemy. At least Les doesn’t associate with a guy who makes a website called the AtacckMachine, Mo…

    • What?

I laid out what my problem is with Les and what changed my initial perception.

I also laid this all out weeks ago and haven’t said a word about him since.

There will be no editing, this can stand just the way it is.

    • Right on kid. Normally I would not condone such language, but it no worse than what Jerkson (aka Dale Jackson) has said about Les.

      • Everything I said has evidence to back it up.

Feel free to keep bringing up an issue that was dead 3 weeks ago.

    • Mind sharing with us some of the many bad things you’ve heard about Mo Brooks? You’re 17, and clearly a prodigy, but us newbies have heard these shallow accusations before. I’ve heard Les’ volunteers have been told that he’s going to win with 70% of the vote. Do you believe that gospel too?

  10. Les appears to be collaborating with Parker Griffith to attack Mo Brooks. If by some miracle Les Phillip got the nomination, he would not get the votes of the country boys who drive the pickup trucks. Les is simply unelectable. It has been rumored that a recent Alfa poll puts Mo Brooks and Parker Griffith in the 40% range, with Les Phillip getting 10 to 12%.
The Dale Jackson attacks on Les appear to be devastating, but this is Alabama, Les never had a chance of being elected to begin with.

    • He never had a chance because he was going against two known entities and he emerged on the scene recently.

  11. This morning you had someone on your show hating on Les Phillip and saying that Les plays the “military card” all the time.
1.Today is Memorial Day. WTF? Fuck you! I hope a veteran beats you. My brother is in the Army you piece of crap.
    2. You, unknowingly, play the “ignorance card” and “stupidity card” EVERY day. And Mo plays the “experience card.”

But through it all, I respect Mo, just not his polished headed, dusted minded supporter Dale.

    • You should of posted this in the right place as opposed to on this thread.

      1. That was not me. I guess I should only allow views I agree with. (Should I delete all your posts?)
      2. I am a veteran also, should your brother beat you up too?
      3. What in the world?
      4. I haven’t mentioned the name Les Phillip in weeks, he is not relevant. 9%

  12. Getting some facts straight:

I have personal knowledge of this. The truth is that Mo Brooks used to consider himself a Mormon. For much of his life. However, some time ago, that apparently changed for him. But his family is still Mormon and from what I understand, he supports them in their beliefs as much as he can while still maintaining his own.

But people throw the term Mormon around like it’s a bad thing. What’s wrong with being a Mormon? I’m one also. And it’s interesting to see how people differentiate between the terms “Mormon” and “Christian”. For the record, Mormons are Christians – whether you like it or not. What else do you call people who believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior and strive to follow His teachings?

Regardless of Mo Brooks’ religious perspective, he still got my vote. Why? He’s a decent man, has a proven conservative track record and has been around long enough to probably not be naive in the world of politics. I couldn’t say the same for Les or Griffith.
